According to relevant data, different light colors have different effects on chicken behavior and production performance. So choosing the right lighting program is very important. Too strong light not only wastes electrical energy, but also the chickens appear neurotic, easy to frighten the herd, have a lot of activity, consume energy, and are prone to fights and pecking. If the light is too weak, it will affect the food intake and drinking water, and will not stimulate the egg production. Unreasonable lighting, high energy consumption, low egg production rate, and slow weight gain greatly affect the production performance of livestock and poultry.

At present, incandescent lamps, energy-saving lamps or LED lamps are generally used for lighting. The distance between the bulbs is about 2m from the ground, and a bulb is installed every 3m. The light intensity should be 6W/㎡ in the first 3 days after entering the chicks, and then gradually decrease to 1.5W/㎡. The size of the bulb can be changed from 60W for the first 3 days to 40W, 25W, and 15W. In recent years, the use of incandescent lamps has been gradually reduced, especially in new laying hen farms, many of which use energy-saving lamps.
